ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY (EHS) Technician

Job Summary:

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technician will support the organization to achieve a successful environmental, health, safety, and security program. This position will develop and implement procedures, guidelines, promotional activities, training and manage EHS equipment to promote and ensure industrial EHS effectiveness & compliance. This position also has supervisory responsibility for the Support Operator (Housekeeping) functions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day supervisory oversight of direct Support Operations (housekeeping) staff.
  • Monitors and supports the performance of the Support Operator (SO) team to provide a clean and healthy work environment. 
  • Hires, trains, and conducts performance evaluations for direct staff that are timely and constructive.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assesses, monitors, and controls environmental & industrial hygiene issues within the facility.
  • Provides guidance on best practices for identifying and reducing exposure to unsafe conditions and unsafe actions.
  • Daily audits all areas of the facility and communicates with leaders/workers/contractors to identify safety risks and concerns to promote positive behavior-based approach to safety.
  • Develops and implements a system to report, monitor, and correct and prevent EHS problems.
  • Adopts a proactive, behavior-based approach to providing a safe working environment; provides training and guidance to employees & supervision via safety bulletins, documentation, and training meetings.
  • Maintains knowledge of hazard prevention and safety best practices, equipment, and developments.
  • Collaborates with management & regulatory agencies to develop, prepare, and implement EHS policies and procedures including emergency response activities.
  • Audits & evaluates the effectiveness of EHS programs.
  • Reviews current EHS training and makes revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Submits recommendations and implements improvements and additions to the EHS management program including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees, visitors, contractors, or equipment.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Prepares reports and general EHS information and distributes it to appropriate levels in the organization.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Assists with employee wellness programs in conjunction with appropriate medical providers.
  • Assists and supports other programs including Environmental, Employee Health & Wellness
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to act with integrity, positivity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Strong learning aptitude required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial health & safety, Business Administration, or related field preferred. 
  • 1-3 years of EHS or related experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous leadership/supervisory experience preferred
  • Training or certification in EHS preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid instructor certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety audits and inspections.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to wear and use respirators.
  • Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
