Job Summary: 

 

The Environmental (EHS) Intern will support the organization to achieve a successful environmental, health, safety, and security program.  This position will review and implement procedures, guidelines, promotional activities, and ensure industrial EHS effectiveness & compliance.   

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance on best practices for identifying and reducing environmental exposure. 
    • Prepare the facility for ISO 14001 certification by reviewing and strengthening environmental management programs.
    • Review and maintain environmental programs to ensure ongoing compliance.
    • Assist with regulatory reporting to the EPA and IDEM.
    • Conduct annual stormwater sampling and testing.
    • Review RCRA regulations and verify facility compliance, with a focus on identifying gaps and improvement opportunities.
    • Evaluate air permit compliance status while expanding oversight of RCRA requirements and hazardous waste management.
    • Recommend and support improvements to environmental and RCRA-related processes and procedures.
    • Assist with internal environmental inspections.
  • Collaborates with management & regulatory agencies to develop, prepare, and implement EHS policies and procedures. 
  • Submits recommendations and implements improvements and additions to the EHS management program. 
  • Prepares reports and general EHS information and distributes it to appropriate levels in the organization. 
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules. 
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned. 

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of company EHS policies and applicable IDEM & EPA standards. 

 

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Creative, motivational, and positive approach to promoting environmental practices. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. 
  • Ability to act with integrity, positivity, professionalism, and confidentiality. 
  • Strong learning aptitude required. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Working towards a/ or having a degree in environmental engineering, environmental studies, or related field preferred.   
  • 1-3 years of EHS or related experience in manufacturing environment preferred. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. 
  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety audits and inspections. 
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders. 
  • Ability to wear and use respirators. 
  • Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
