JOB SUMMARY:
The Production Superintendent will plan, direct, and lead the production operations of WSP (a 24/7/365 manufacturing operation). Focus will be on safety, environmental compliance, maintaining continuous operations, system optimization, downtime minimization, continuous improvement, and cost minimization. Will provide leadership and oversee strategic planning and budget/capital planning for production.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hires and trains production department supervisors and production team.
- Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of production supervisors.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles coaching, performance corrections and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promotes and assures safety and environmental compliance as primary responsibility.

- Collaborates closely with maintenance, accounting, EHS, HR, purchasing/logistics and other functional departments.
- Oversees the longer-term operations of the production department.
- Evaluates systems and facilities.
- Assesses systems to plan work assignments and project schedules.
- Develops production procedures and schedules.
- Prepares departmental budget estimates and costs of specific capital improvement projects.
- Develop and design innovative solutions to difficult problems and be on call for emergencies.
- Handle multiple internally- and externally sponsored projects and daily activities, manage and meet deadlines, and develop & track plans on how to accomplish departmental and distribution goals.
- Work with local site Environmental Health & Safety department leadership to understand, implement, and audit EHS programs. Ensure that all EHS programs and procedures are followed.
- Facilitate technical and EHS training.
- Mentor all production supervisors by motivating and providing direction to help them achieve their goals and make a consistent effort to go above and beyond.
- Develop Production department business plans and provide guidance and direction for the successful implementation of those plans.
- Work with site Finance team to develop, set and track budgets.
- Lead, participate in and support efficiency improvement Kaizen/5S activities for the site, as well as the network when needed.
- Develop capital spending plans, facilitate cross-functional project planning, and perform cost analysis.
- Own and promote excellent housekeeping/5S.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SILLS/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and mobile equipment
- Knowledge of machines and tools
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify issues and come up with solutions with input from team.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Extensive knowledge of kiln, pelletizing and material handling technologies is ideal.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma with College Degree preferred.
- Three plus years of supervisory role preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb stairs/ladders on a regular basis.
- Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
- Must be capable of operating all manufacturing and mobile equipment including loaders, forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.
- Must be able to work wearing appropriate safety PPE including respirators.
