MATERIALS TECHNICIAN

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Materials Technician will handle the receipt of inbound and outbound materials at the facility.  Will also support the safe movements of railcars around the plant to load and unload material.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Have general working knowledge of all plant equipment (conveyors, baghouses, dryers, Kiln, vacuum systems, Pelletizer, etc.).
  • Will receive inbound EAF dust, anthracite (Rail and trucks) and process outbound shipments of Waelz Zinc Oxide and Waelz Iron Product.
  • Will operate and maintain truck washing station and equipment.
  • Will operate Geiger counter, scales, sampling equipment and other related equipment.
  • Safely maneuver the Track mobile and railcars for loading and unloading
  • Safely places railcars in designated areas for railroad switches.
  • Ability to communicate with the logistics, production, management, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Assist with various railcar repair jobs such as maintaining, cleaning, and repair.
  • Assist with performing routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs of railcars and other equipment.
  • Must be able to handle basic administrative activities related to shipping/receiving materials such as inspection forms, bill of ladings, data input (ie. Scalehouse) and verifying/signing manifests.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining the plant processes/equipment in a safe & environmentally sound manner meeting quality, production, and recovery goals.
  • Will operate mobile equipment including forklifts, track mobile, telehandlers, scissor lifts, vacuum sweepers, front-end loaders, golf carts etc.
  • Must be able to take and follow direction.
  • Communicate well with others.
  • Collect and record various data throughout the facility.
  • Sweeps, Cleans, organizes, stocks, and otherwise maintains areas, parts, tools, and supplies utilizing Lean/5S methods.
  • Assist with maintenance as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SILLS/ABILITIES:

 

  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to communicate well (written, verbal and otherwise).
  • Knowledge of all company safety, health, environmental and production policies, and procedures.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must be qualified to wear a respirator.
  • Must obtain and maintain in-house mobile equipment licensing.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Through visual and auditory senses, must be able to monitor proper operation of machinery and equipment.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work wearing appropriate safety PPE including respirators.
