Production Group Leader

JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Group Leader is a working member of a shift that will assist the Production Supervisor in providing leadership for all production employees on their assigned shift. Will be responsible for ensuring safety, environmental compliance, productivity, quality, 5S, process improvements, training, and positive employee engagement. Production Group Leader will report directly to the assigned shift supervisor.

 

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist the supervisor in leading their team/shift to create a safe, environmentally compliant workplace that produces high quality products in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Must perform all duties and activities in a manner that is aligned with our company values:  Integrity, Humility, Innovation, Open To Change, Collaboration, Excellence and Customer Focus.
  • For day-to-day activities of team members, you will be overseeing in each area or process, with the primary area of responsibility in the pelletizing process.
  • Will communicate all time/attendance, work performance, safety/environmental issues to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper training and guidance for all new and current employees, as directed by the supervisor, this would include documentation and recommendations as needed.
  • Communicates with other departments (maintenance, quality, HR, safety) and other shifts to report issues, concerns, under the guidance of the shift supervisor. 
  • Will assist in recruitment, development, and recommendations for promotion and disciplinary actions of hourly team members. Group leaders will not directly issue disciplinary actions.
  • Will make recommendations to supervisor and management for overall performance of assigned team members for periodic and annual performance reviews.
  • Must be willing and able to fill in on various positions on assigned shift as back-up to operators. This will include coverage in the absence of a shift supervisor when needed on a limited bases. Based on the experience and development of a given group leader this may be on an hour-to-hour period or up to a complete shift.
  • Must perform continual monitoring of assigned processes and assist with inspections, compliance audits, maintenance repairs (within skill level), data collection and entry as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIRED SILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Mechanically inclined with developing analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication and people skills. Must be able to manage a small group of team members.
  • Ability to organize with diligence.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and heavy industrial environment.
  • Must have a general and working understanding or the overall process  and a willingness and ability to learn the techniques and processes of the production department.
  • Must have basic computer (Microsoft Office Suite) and solid typing skills.
  • Must complete and maintain any assigned company required training and certifications. Example – smoke school.
  • Flexibility to re-prioritize task as needs change with support and guidance of the supervisor and managers.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required - High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred - Vocational, technical or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience.

Preferred - 1-2 years’ experience with WSP or one of the ZN companies, in production as a cone or kiln operator.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to seventy-five pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of operating all manufacturing and mobile equipment assigned to production.
  • Must be able to work wearing appropriate safety PPE including respirators.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
